You may notice a lack of respect, children refusing to follow family rules, children not understanding your expectations.

Are you clearly communicating family rules and expectations to your child? Unclear family rules and expectations can lead to aggravation for you and every member of your family. Paying attention to these details can help you avoid breaking difficult habits down the road.

What do I do if my child……. ?

In this section we will be examining some very common problems dealing with children who have problems following rules and meeting expectations.  Children who have these problems typically do not know how to improve their behavior.

On the following pages you will find actions which you can take to correct and prevent problems in these areas. 

The following two steps have been helpful when implementing corrective actions.

  1. You should be prepared to clearly describe your family expectations. Show or tell your child what is exactly expected.
  2. You should also list steps which your child can take to be successful. This list can be posted or read to your child.

Before you begin do the following:

  1. Observe your child. Be as specific as possible when naming the problem.
  2. Keep notes. Write down the problem. List everything that you try and the results of your effort.
